Concrete Driveway Cost Calculator

Enter the driveway’s length and width, pick a finish and thickness, and switch on tear-out, rebar, sealing or a permit. The calculator prices the job from six published cost guides, uses the median as the typical figure, and shows each source next to your total so you can test a contractor’s bid.

How to use the concrete driveway cost calculator

  1. Measure the main slab: length from the garage door to the street apron, and the finished width of the concrete.
  2. Add odd shapes as extra square feet. Work out a flared entrance or a turnaround separately (a triangle is half of base times height) and enter the total.
  3. Pick the finish. Standard broom finish is the plain, lightly textured gray surface. Exposed aggregate, color and stamping are priced at their own rates.
  4. Pick the thickness. The guides price a 4 in slab; at 5, 6 or 8 in the extra concrete is added as its own line.
  5. Switch on the extras that apply: tear-out of an old slab, a rebar grid, a first coat of sealer and a permit.

You get a typical total, a low-to-high range, the all-in price per square foot and the cubic yards in the slab. Type a bid into “Your quote” to see where it lands.

Installed prices, materials and labor, as printed when we opened each page in October 2026. *HomeGuide’s “basic decorative” tier covers both. Each source counts at its stated average, or the middle of its range, and the calculator uses the median. The guides price slightly different jobs: Metal America includes excavation, base and rebar, Homewyse excludes them, and ConcreteListings prices a 5 in slab. That is why one guide alone can mislead; the midpoint of HomeAdvisor’s overall $8–$20 range would put a plain driveway at $14.

What common driveway sizes cost

SizeAreaStandard, typicalStamped, typicalHomeAdvisor average
1 car, 10 × 20 ft200 sq ft$1,850$3,600$2,300
1 car, 12 × 24 ft288 sq ft$2,664$5,184$3,300
2 car, 20 × 20 ft400 sq ft$3,700$7,200$4,600
2 car, 24 × 24 ft576 sq ft$5,328$10,368$6,600
3 car, 24 × 36 ft864 sq ft$7,992$15,552$9,950

The middle columns are the defaults at 4 in with no extras. HomeAdvisor’s averages, drawn from finished jobs that may include tear-out or upgrades, run about 24% higher. HomeGuide prices a 24 × 24 ft driveway at $3,500 to $8,600 and ConcreteListings a 20 × 20 ft slab at $3,150 to $4,550, so the defaults sit inside both.

How thickness changes the bill

Cubic yards equal square feet times inches divided by 324. A 24 × 24 ft slab at 4 in holds 7.11 yd³; with 10% extra (HomeGuide suggests 5 to 10%) you would order 8. Each added inch on 100 sq ft is about 0.31 yd³, or $44 at the $141.25 median of four ready-mix price lists, so going from 4 to 6 in on that driveway adds about $502 of concrete. Treat that as a floor: HomeGuide’s $8–$20 per square foot at 6 in, against $6–$15 at 4 in, shows labor and base rising too. Plan 4 in for cars and 5 to 6 in where pickups or RVs park, and ask what base depth the contractor intends on soft clay or in freeze-thaw country.

Replacing an old driveway: tear-out and haul-away

An old slab has to be broken up and trucked away first, and here the guides disagree most: ConcreteCalculate lists $1.50 to $2.50 per square foot, Bob Vila $1 to $4, and HomeGuide’s removal guide $3 to $8 with disposal. Their median, $2.50, adds about $1,440 to the 24 × 24 ft example, bringing a standard replacement near $6,770. HomeGuide adds $1 to $3 per square foot when the old slab is reinforced.

Extras that may or may not be in your quote

  • Rebar. Metal America’s price already includes #3 bars on 18 in centers. If your bid lists no reinforcement, a grid adds about $2 per square foot.
  • Sealer. A first coat after curing runs about $1.50 per square foot.
  • Permit and apron. Permits run $50 to $300 across three guides. The apron between sidewalk and street is often public right-of-way; HomeAdvisor puts a new one at $1,530 to $4,320. Enter its area as extra if your contractor pours it.

Concrete, asphalt or pavers?

HomeGuide puts installed asphalt at $5 to $12 per square foot with a 15 to 30 year life, concrete at $6 to $14 with 30 to 40 years, and pavers at $10 to $30 with 25 to 75 years. The asphalt calculator turns the same driveway into tons of hot mix, the paver calculator counts pavers, base and sand, and the concrete calculator sizes a small pad you pour yourself.

These are national figures, and location matters. ConcreteListings’ 2026 report finds the same slab about 15% cheaper in Arkansas, Mississippi and West Virginia and 25 to 35% dearer in California, Alaska and Hawaii, mostly from labor. How this calculator gets its numbers. Full method: our methodology.

  • Each guide counts at its stated average or range midpoint; the typical price is their median (broom $9.25 from six guides, exposed aggregate $12, colored $12.50, stamped $18). Low and high are the lowest and highest of those values.
  • Prices are installed, for a 4 in residential slab; differences in scope between guides are kept as published.
  • Thicker slabs add only the extra concrete, (inches − 4) × area ÷ 324 yd³, at the $141.25 median ready-mix price; extra labor is not added.
  • Options use the median of three guides each: tear-out $2.50, rebar $2.00 and sealer $1.50 per sq ft; permit $125.
  • Concrete to order = volume plus 10%, rounded up to a quarter yard.
  • National estimates read Oct 28, 2026; regional prices vary (−15% to +35% by state). Angi shares HomeAdvisor’s data and is not counted separately.
