Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 25, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how CalcTheJob (“we”, “us”) collects, uses and shares information when you use https://calcthejob.com (the “Site”). CalcTheJob operates the Site and is responsible for the personal information described in this policy (the “data controller”). If you have questions, contact us at contact@calcthejob.com.

Summary

  • You do not need an account to use the Site, and we do not ask for your name, email address or password.
  • The calculators run entirely in your browser. The measurements and other values you type are not sent to our servers.
  • Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver and protect the Site.
  • We measure traffic with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies. We use cookies and similar technologies for essential functions and, with your consent where required, for advertising (Google AdSense).
  • You can refuse non-essential cookies, opt out of personalized ads, and exercise your privacy rights by contacting us.

1. Information we collect

1.1 Information you provide

  • Messages to us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.

We do not require registration and we do not knowingly collect special categories of personal data. Please do not include sensitive personal information in messages.

1.2 Information processed only in your browser

All calculations (for example concrete, paver, asphalt, gravel, sand, topsoil, mulch, fence, flooring, tile, drywall, paint, deck, roofing and roof pitch estimates) are performed by code running on your device. The values you enter stay in your browser. We store one preference in your browser’s local storage — whether you prefer US or metric units — so the Site remembers it next time. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

1.3 Information collected automatically

  • Technical and log data. Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically receives data such as your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring page, the pages you request, and the date and time of each request. This is used to deliver the Site, keep it secure, prevent abuse and diagnose errors.
  • Cookies and similar technologies. See section 3.

2. How we use information

We use information to:

  • operate, maintain and improve the Site, including fixing errors and understanding which calculators are used;
  • protect the Site against abuse, automated scraping and attacks;
  • show advertising and measure its performance;
  • respond to your messages and requests, including privacy requests;
  • comply with legal obligations.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use:

  • Strictly necessary cookies and storage, which make the Site work and remember choices such as your unit preference and cookie preferences. These cannot be switched off.
  • No analytics cookies. Our analytics service, Cloudflare Web Analytics, is cookieless (see section 3.3).
  • Advertising cookies (only with consent where required), set by Google and its ad partners to show ads, limit how often you see an ad, and measure ad performance.

You can change your choices at any time through the “Privacy & cookie settings” link in the site footer (see section 3.2) or by deleting cookies in your browser settings. Refusing non-essential cookies does not limit any of the calculators.

3.1 Advertising and Google

We use Google AdSense to show ads. In connection with this:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this Site or other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings: https://adssettings.google.com.
  • You can learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
  • You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at https://www.aboutads.info/choices (United States) or https://www.youronlinechoices.eu (European Economic Area and United Kingdom).

If you opt out of personalized ads, you may still see non-personalized ads.

3.2 Consent and your choices

We use Google’s consent management platform (Google Privacy & messaging), which is certified under the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework.

  • EEA, UK and Switzerland: on your first visit a consent message asks whether you agree to advertising cookies and personalized ads. Until you choose, Google’s tags run with consent denied (Google Consent Mode). Your choice is passed to Google and the other vendors listed in the message. To change or withdraw it later, use the “Privacy & cookie settings” link in the site footer, which re-opens the message.
  • US states with consumer privacy laws (such as California): visitors see a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link provided by Google, which lets you opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising.
  • Elsewhere: the footer link brings you to this section; you can use the Google and industry opt-out tools in section 3.1 or your browser settings.

3.3 Analytics: Cloudflare Web Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, provided by Cloudflare, Inc., to count page views and measure how fast pages load. A small script from Cloudflare reports, for each page view, the page address (without query strings), the referring page, your browser and device type, your approximate country, and page-load performance timings. It does not set cookies, does not use local storage or other browser storage, and is not used to identify or track you across sites. Cloudflare receives your IP address when the report is sent, as with any web request, and says it discards it rather than storing it with the analytics data. We see only aggregated statistics. See Cloudflare’s Web Analytics FAQ and Privacy Policy.

4. Legal bases (EEA, UK and Swiss users)

  • Legitimate interests — to operate, secure and improve the Site, prevent abuse, keep server logs and collect cookieless, aggregated analytics;
  • Consent — for advertising cookies and personalized ads; you can withdraw consent at any time;
  • Performance of a request — to reply to your messages;
  • Legal obligation — where we must keep or disclose information by law.

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share information only with:

  • Hosting, security and analytics provider — Cloudflare, Inc., which hosts the Site, processes request data (including IP addresses) to deliver, cache and protect it, and provides Cloudflare Web Analytics (section 3.3);
  • Advertising partners — Google and other vendors described in section 3.1, subject to your choices;
  • Authorities or others — when required by law, or to protect our rights, users or the public.

6. Data retention

  • Server and security logs (including IP addresses), held by us or our hosting provider: up to 30 days, unless needed longer to investigate abuse.
  • Emails you send us: as long as needed to handle your request, and then deleted unless we need to keep them for legal reasons.
  • Cookies and local storage: for the periods described in our consent tool or set by the relevant vendor; your unit preference stays until you clear it.

7. International transfers

Our providers operate globally, so your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.

8. Your rights

8.1 EEA, UK and Swiss users

You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data; to restrict or object to processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

8.2 California residents (CCPA/CPRA)

California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used and disclosed; to request deletion or correction; to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising; to limit the use of sensitive personal information (we do not collect it); and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. The categories we may collect are identifiers (such as IP address), internet activity (such as pages viewed) and inferences used for advertising. You can opt out of sale or sharing for personalized advertising through the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link shown to visitors from covered states (see section 3.2).

8.2.1 Global Privacy Control (GPC)

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, the Site treats it as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising: before any ad code loads, the Site tells Google (through Google Consent Mode) that ad personalization and the use of your data for ads are denied, and requests non-personalized ads. You may still see ads, but they are not personalized. This applies to the browser and device sending the signal.

8.3 Other US states

Residents of other US states with consumer privacy laws have similar rights to access, delete and correct personal data and to opt out of targeted advertising. Use the contact details below to make a request.

8.4 How to make a request

Email contact@calcthejob.com with the subject “Privacy request” and describe what you would like us to do. Because we do not have accounts, we may ask for information that helps us locate the data concerned (for example the approximate time and IP address of your visit). We will respond within the time required by applicable law.

9. Children

The Site is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections, to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

11. Third-party links

The Site may link to third-party websites. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, for example the Google Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the effective date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, provide a more prominent notice on the Site.

13. Contact
